Two union ministers from Assam are set to bite the dust in the Lok Sabha election as their nearest BJP rivals surged ahead Friday with a lead of over 50,000 votes.
Paban Singh Ghatowar, minister of development of north eastern region and Congress candidate from Dibrugarh, is likely to lose, and so is union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Ranee Narah from Lakhimpur.
Although officials are yet to make any formal announcement, BJP's Rameswar Teli is ahead with a margin of over 175,000 votes over Ghatowar.
Similarly, in Lakhimpur, president of the Assam BJP, Sarbananda Sonowal, is ahead with 211,760 votes.
In Jorhat, BJP's Kamakhya Prasad Tasa has taken a lead of over 80,000 votes over Congress candidate and former union minister Bijoy Krishna Handique.
In the Nowgong constituency, BJP candidate and sitting MP Rajen Gohain maintained a margin of 108,298 over his rival Congress candidate Jonjonali Baruah.
In the prestigious Gauhati Lok Sabha constituency, BJP's sitting MP Bijoya Chakraborty is leading with nearly a lakh votes over her nearest Congress rival Manas Bora, son of state Social Welfare Minister Akon Bora.
