UAE committed to assisting refugees

Geneva, Dec 21 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates humanitarian role and its assistance to refugees from various parts of the world was hailed at an international panel debate at the UN headquarters here.

Hanif Al Qassim, Chairman of the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue, praised the UAE's leading humanitarian role and its assistance to refugees from various parts of the world while stressing that this vision in line with the country's humanitarian path that was established since its creation.

Qassim said the UAE was committed to help people suffering from the effects of crises and instability in their countries, without considering their nationalities and beliefs.

He called for the adoption of a new joint working agenda that will unlock the potential of international social mobility as well as for the combined efforts of Europe and the Middle East to respond to the current migrant and refugee crisis.

Idriss Jazairy, Executive Director of the Geneva Centre and Director of the Debate, called on all UN member countries to implement the UN Global Compact for Migration while pointing out that the migrant and refugee crisis can be solved through dialogue, alliances and multilateral diplomacy.
