A veteran physician committed suicide by jumping in front of a local train allegedly because he was not getting his salary at his Hooghly district hospital, the railway police said on Thursday.
"Rebati Mohan Ghosh, a cardiologist by profession, committed suicide by jumping before a local train in Hooghly district's Rishra sailway station on Wednesday evening," an officer from Sheoraphuli Government Railway Police said.
According to the staff of Rishra Seva Sadan Hospital, where the cardiologist worked, salaries of many employees and doctors, including Ghosh, were due for several months.
"The doctor was a resident of Dunlop in North 24-Parganas. We are investigating the incident. The body of the deceased has been sent for autopsy," the officer added.
