Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Saturday called on his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. Yadav, who arrived here on a two-day visit, called on the chief minister at the latter's camp office in the evening.

During the meeting, described by officials as a courtesy call, the Samajwadi Party leader enquired about various flagship programmes of the Congress government for the welfare of various sections of the people.

He complimented the state government and the chief minister, said a statement from the chief minister's office.

Kiran Kumar Reddy told Yadav that the state government initiated path-breaking schemes like Bangaru Talli, Indiramma Amrutha Hastham, Mee Seva, Amma Hastham, kilo one rupee rice, interest free loans to farmers and women, free power for agriculture, social aecurity pensions, Rajiv Aarogya Sree, scholarships and fee reimbursement.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister called on Telugu Desam Party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu. The meeting assumed significance in view of the efforts by both the regional parties to forge a third front of like-minded parties at the centre after the 2014 elections.

Leaders of various pro-Telangana organisations met Yadav, seeking his party's support to the demand for separate statehood to Telangana.

Union Minister of State for Tourism K. Chiranjeevi will be hosting a breakfast for the Uttar Pradesh chief minister Sunday.
