Lucknow and some other parts of Uttar Pradesh experienced winter chill Monday. Sunday night temperature in Lucknow, at 5.1 degrees Celsius, was lower than Shimla, which recorded 5.7 degrees Celsius, met department officials told IANS.
The winter chill was compounded with cold breeze blowing across many parts of the state. The weatherman said colder weather could be expected in the next few days, as a sudden dip in mercury could be attributed to cold winds blowing from the snow-laden hills of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
In just two days, minimum temperatures in Lucknow have slipped from 8.7 degrees Celsius to 5.1 degrees Celsius. Day temperatures, however, continue to hover around 24.4 degrees Celsius. The sun shines bright through the day, keeping day temperatures high.
Met department officials say sunny days will soon be gone, as fog envelops many parts of the state. Foggy days are already being experienced in Lucknow, Kanpur, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri and Ghaziabad.
Train schedules have been hit by fog, and flights too are likely to be hit as fog gets even more dense in the days to come.
