A 23-year-old man hailing from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested here for allegedly killing his wife, police said on Wednesday.
The accused was identified as Deepender Singh, a native from Kaushambi.
Gurgaon police said that Singh used to live in a colony in Allahabad and eloped with a woman and married her in a temple.
A few months back, the couple started living in Gurgaon's Rajiv colony on rent.
The woman's father Lalji said in his complaint that the accused killed his daughter on June 20 and cremated her without informing them.
The family alleged that Singh cremated his 'wife' to destroy evidences.
Police has registered a case under sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code at Civil Lines police station.
"We are questioning the accused," a senior police officer said.
