The US industrial production fell for a second month in September due to the sluggish mining and manufacturing output, the Federal Reserve said on Friday.
The US industrial production, an indicator of factories, mines, and utilities output, fell 0.2 percent in September, following a 0.1-percent decrease in August.
The Fed revised August's decline to 0.1 percent from its previous estimate of 0.4 percent, reported Xinhua.
The manufacturing output, the largest component of the overall industrial production, declined 0.1 percent in September after dropping 0.4 percent in the previous month.
The index for mining fell 2 percent in September, the sharpest decline in four months and indicating the falling oil prices continue to hurt the energy sector.
Utilities output rose 1.3 percent in the month, the same growth rate in August.
New York Fed president William Dudley said on Thursday that recent data suggest a slowing US economy, as inventories and strong dollar constrain the economic expansion.
