She famously essayed 'Ammu' in "Uttaran" for five years, and now she has taken on the role of a mother yet again in "Diya Aur Baati Hum". But actress Vaishali Thakkar doesn't mind it.
"It depends on the kind of mother I play. In 'Uttaran', my character as a mother had a lot of depth. Here in 'Diya Aur Baati Hum', my role is a little psychotic and a little inconsistent... so it's not monotonous," Vaishali told IANS.
"I very consciously did not take characters with the same shades... knowing very well that I do not want to be typecast," added the 50-year-old actress, who plays Manjiri in the Star Plus show.
Having been part of a show as long-running as "Uttaran", Vaishali was asked to comment on the system of seasons in fiction shows -- a fad popular in the west, and which is now being adopted in India.
She said it is an interesting approach, but the audience of our country is not yet ready for it.
"A season style would be very interesting, but it is going to take time for the audience to come to that level. It is better for reality shows as of now, but when you talk about a loyal audience who have to watch you each and every day, they are so glued to television... and to make them understand the seasonal thing is slightly difficult," the actress said.
Vaishali also added that even though the approach is interesting, there is so much competition in the TV industry that breaking a show at its peak would not be a good idea.
"Right now, there are so many channels and there's so much competition that it would not be very sensible... because after all, it is a huge business. If a show is doing very well, then why would the channel shut the show, and give the TRPs to the other competent channel," Vaishali said.
