Senior CPI-M leader A. Vijayaraghavan was on Friday chosen as the new convenor of the Kerala's ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF).
He replaces Vaikom Viswan, who held the post for the past 12 years but now expressed his desire to step down as he was unwell.
Soon after the State Secretariat of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) that met here on Friday decided to nominate him for the post, Vijayaragahavan's name was cleared by the LDF in its meeting.
A Central Committee member of the CPI-M and a former Rajya Sabha member, Vijayaraghavan was undertaking party work in Delhi, before shifting base to the state last year for the same purpose.
