A criminal involved in over half a dozen crimes in Delhi and carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head has been arrested, police said on Wednesday.
Hari Om Singh was arrested on Tuesday night on a tip off after a brief exchange of fire on a road linking Seemapuri and Anand Vihar, Deputy Commissioner of Police P.S Kushwaha said.
A resident of Shahdara in east Delhi, Singh was wanted in many criminal cases of heinous nature including murder and attempt to murder in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. A foreign made pistol with three live cartridges was recovered from him.
"Singh was released on bail in 2005 and continued his criminal activities in various parts of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi since then. He wanted to eliminate his rival gang leader Pappu Jat," Kushwah said.
Singh, along with his brother Narinder Pal, in 2016 attacked east Delhi businessman Vinod Gupta with firearms over a personal animosity. A reward of Rs 1 lakh was declared by police on his arrest, he added.
"To evade arrest, he later shifted his criminal base to Aligarh and Rajasthan and simultaneously procuring weapons.
"Singh indulged in personal rivalry with his neighbour Pappu Jat. Jat and his associates killed one of Singh's brothers in 1993. Both gangs wanted to eliminate each others' members and gang leaders since then," the officer said.
