Incredible shots of the planet from sunset and sunrise, to city lights and green aurora, to lightning storms and shooting stars -- a two-hour special "Live from Space" programme will give TV viewers an insight into scenes witnessed from the International Space Station.

The National Geographic Channel will bring the show Saturday for the first time as a follow up to a new show "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey", a 13-part series showcasing breathtaking views of the universe.

"Live From Space" won't just have astronauts doing the talking, the viewers will also be able to chat via video with them and have their faces beamed into space to join the conversation.

This "social-media telescope" will give viewers a unique real-time insight, said a statement.

The feature is a curtain raiser to "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey", which will be telecast Sunday. To be produced by Seth MacFarlane and Ann Druyan, it features astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson as the host.

Over three decades after the debut of "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage", Carl Sagan's stunning and iconic exploration of the universe as revealed by science, "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" sets off on a new voyage for the stars. The series will explore how humans discovered the laws of nature and found co-ordinates in space and time.
