Congress leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi Friday said the party accepted the mandate of the people and its defeat in the general elections.

"We accept the mandate of the people and welcome it and accept our defeat," Chaturvedi told reporters here.

Chaturvedi, a Rajya Sabha member, said the party will introspect and see "where it went wrong".

The Bharatiya Janata Party appeared set for victory in the Lok Sabha polls with the Congress headed for its lowest tally.
