The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday said that it would form a government in Delhi only if it gets support in "natural process".

"We will form government if we get support in natural process. Otherwise, would like to sit in the opposition," said Nitin Gadkari, the poll incharge of the party in Delhi.

The statement came following party president Rajnath Singh's remark the party would form government in all four states - Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the results of which were declared Sunday.

The BJP got 31 seats in Delhi while debutant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) got 28 seats. The Congress, ruling the national capital for the past 15 years, was routed with just eight seats. The Akali Dal, Janata Dal-United and an independent candidate got one seat each.

The BJP needed to win 36 seats to cross the halfway mark in Delhi.

However, it has fallen short of the figure by four seats if ally Akali Dal's one seat is added to its total of 31.

Delhi has a 70-member assembly.

"We respect the mandate of the people of Delhi. We haven't got the majority and consultations are on within the party," state unit leader Satish Upadhyay told IANS.

"We can't force anyone to support us," he added.

Upadhyay further said the BJP was not contacting any individual or party to seek support.
