A 23-year-old woman was found in semi-conscious condition with her wrists cut and her year-old daughter lying motionless next to her on bed in her housein north Delhi, police said Tuesday.
The woman, who apparently consumed some poisonous substance, is recuperating in a hospital, police said, adding a magisterial inquiry has been ordered.
The incident happened in Bawana area of north Delhi.
Rekha was found lying on her bed along with her daughter in a semi-conscious state by her mother-in-law who informed a neighbour. Both her wrists had deep cuts.
The woman and the child were taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared the daughter dead. Doctors said Rekha's condition was stable.
Police said what caused the incident would be ascertained after they record Rekha's statement. A blade and a mosquito repellent bottle were recovered from the spot.
Police have questioned family members.
