A woman gave birth on a highway in Jharkhand after over five hours of not receiving any medical aid, officials said on Saturday.
On Thursday, the pregnant woman Sonmani Ageria, a resident of Latehar district, along with her three children walked 18 km to enrol for a UIDAI (Adhar) card at the district headquarters.
Early Friday morning, she started suffering from labour pains.
According to reports, she was in pain for almost five hours and no help reached her.
She delivered the baby on the highway. The baby survived but there was no one to attend to the newborn.
A government hospital was around 100 metres from the highway, the reports said.
Someone informed the Latehar police and she was shifted to hospital later on Friday.
