Known for offering high-end smartphones at disruptive prices, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi on Thursday released its much-awaited flagship device Mi 5 at Rs.24,999 to maintain its dominance in the world's largest market with budget devices.
"As promised, we are excited to bring our most beautiful device to India within a month of its global launch. Mi 5 is the perfect embodiment of high-performance and a beautiful, lightweight design. It has been in making for 19 months and has several technological breakthroughs built into it," Hugo Barra, vice president, Xiaomi, told reporters here.
The smartphone, which was launched in February this year at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, comes with a 5.15-inch ultra-thin bezel-less 16 LED display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels at a PPI of 428 pixels-per-inch.
The phone has a 3D-curved glass body is made of Gorilla Glass 4 that makes the phone slimmer and gives the best "hand feel". The front fingerprint scanner unlocks the phone in a blink.
The 129-gram Mi 5, which is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, remains true to the brand's pricing strategy with 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard memory.
Apart from the latest Adreno 530 GPU for ultimate gaming experience, it has a Kryo quadcore CPU with two of them clocked at 1.8 Ghz and the remaining two at 1.4 Ghz.
The smartphone wears 16-megapixel flat rear camera with dual tone flash, 6P lens, quick focus and 4-axis optical image stabilisation (OIS) and is assisted by a 2-micron pixel 4-megapixel secondary camera for selfies.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 is powered by a 3,000mAh non battery and supports quick charge.
The smartphone covers all LTE brands in India and comes with a VoLTE technology allowing user to make high-quality calls with all supported networks.
Infrared support makes it work as a universal remote for multiple devices including set top boxes and ACs. Mi5 supports full NFC functionality for both reading and writing.
Xiaomi is offering an accidental damage for Rs. 499 for a year on the device that runs on MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
