The debate on whether the 'NITI' in NITI Aayog stands for policy or is a straight-forward acronym for National Institution for Transforming India continues to rankle members of the Aayog. In a recent deposition before the parliamentary standing committee, a senior official from NITI Aayog was quizzed about the issue.

The official offered an interesting explanation. He said that being a new entity, the NITI Aayog was still taking 'baby steps' and was yet to realise its full potential. As things fall in place, the confusion over its name will also clear up.
