Irfan Habib was trending on social media after a comment made by him irked the saffron brigade. He had compared the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to terrorist organisation Islamic State. People discussing the comment or protesting against it started tagging the Twitter handle of the senior historian with the same name. As the renowned historian Irfan Habib's Twitter notification buzz went berserk, he had to eventually post a clarification: "@irfhabib Have serious reservations about RSS and its ideology. However ISIS parallel was drawn by Prof Irfan Habib, Aligarh, and not me. Why tag me?" Meanwhile, some tweets suggested that the author of the Moody's report on rising intolerance in India is the son-in-law of Habib. No clarification has yet surfaced on which Habib's son-in-law this might be.
