More than 1,000 Uttar Pradesh Police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel protect the area in and around Ram Janmabhoomi, day in and day out. They are armed with everything ranging from 9-millimetre pistols to INSAS rifles and AK-47s, but the most effective weapon in their arsenal is the humble wooden catapult. The 2-kilometre radius is infested with monkeys that tease both visitors to the Ram Lalla temple and security personnel alike. Catapult and stones are deemed the best weapons against the simians.
