After a long gap, the Congress headquarters at 24, Akbar Road is undergoing a major renovation. New drains have been built to prevent water-logging during the monsoon and the courtyard will sport new tiles. The media briefing room will be shut for a month for an overhaul. Recently, under the impact of a heavy downpour, the false ceiling of the room almost fell and started leaking. According to Congress sources, a worried Sonia Gandhi quickly called up the media department to enquire what was happening. She also instructed the party to renovate the headquarters as early as possible.
