Kaushik Basu, senior vice-president and chief economist of the World Bank, is among the well-followed on Twitter.

He created some flutter when he tweeted on Monday, "One of the deepest philosophical questions is when an immigration officer after pondering your passport looks at you and asks, 'Is that you?'" Apart from numerous retweets and likes, he also received unsolicited advice on how to deal with the situation.

One said, "Take a pause and see if that guy freaks; to make it more intense just close your eyes for few secs. Then say yes." Another wondered, "What happens when we say no."
