Upset with Narendra Modi after the 2002 riots in Gujarat, BJP MP from Bihar Syed Shahnawaz Hussain had decided not to participate in any of Modi’s functions in that state. But when Modi recently decided to fast for communal harmony and peace, Hussain, who is the BJP’s most popular Muslim face, decided to take part, making it the first time in nine years that he will be in Gujarat for a political event organised by Modi. Indeed, most prominent BJP leaders are going to Gujarat to attend Modi’s fast although they did not do so when Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan decided to fast against the Union government’s policies.
