On Monday, self-proclaimed ethical hacker Ankit Fadia posted a picture on his Facebook timeline that showed him with a "government certificate" appointing him brand ambassador for the Digital India initiative. Next morning, a statement by the Department of Electronics and IT posted on the Press Information Bureau (PIB) website said, "There were certain news reports that there is a move to appoint a brand ambassador for the Digital India programme of the government. This is to clarify that there has been no such move to appoint a brand ambassador as reported." That statement was withdrawn within hours of release; by evening, the names of four brand ambassadors, including that of Fadia, were released by the PIB. This is the second instance of a flip-flop involving the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. Last week, a draft policy on encryption was uploaded on its website but withdrawn due to social media outrage.
