Keeping an eye

Uttarakhand government officials were probably not expecting this bang in the middle of the Navratras. Earlier this week, Chief Minister Harish Rawat conducted a series of surprise checks at the state secretariat offices. Officials in these departments were caught unawares as Rawat landed up with his secretaries and other officials in tow. He made it clear he was unhappy that many officials were on leave even though their leaves had not been sanctioned. He warned the secretaries concerned of stern action if they did not keep a keen eye on the functioning of their departments. He also didn't take kindly to the sight of huge stacks of files lying around and ordered the officials concerned to clear them without delay.
