Letters: A Modi-fication in agenda

The nation's economy is in disrepair with low growth and high inflation. Yet, on the brink of a landmark election, no political party has spelt out a legible economic road map. The Congress, which ought to bear the onus of much that has gone wrong, is busy promoting a "Santa Claus" brand of giveaways. The Aam Aadmi Party, the new pretender to power, is touting a brand of grievance and injured innocence. It has no clue about policies for national economic resurgence. The Bharatiya Janata Party, a party now led by Narendra Modi, is espousing a brand of "aggressive governance" which is not an economic policy per se but merely an efficient vehicle to deliver one. There is still time for Modi to lay down specific policy milestones covering energy, infrastructure, GST, leveraging idle stock of food grains to bring food inflation down, clear thoughts on foreign direct investment and and so on. He can yet create a significant wave by switching over from socio-political agenda to a socio-economic one.
