Letters: Double standards

It was surprising and disappointing to read the report “Karuna gives cold shoulder to Sonia” (May 25). It seems as if M Karunanidhi is the only living father to a daughter left in our country. After reading the report one can’t help but believe that had it not been for the Supreme Court’s supervision, any investigation in India would have turned into a farce and thus this father and daughter duo would have enjoyed the benefits of a murky deal without being held accountable for it.

Also, given that Sonia Gandhi is concerned for Kanimozhi because she is a “woman” in prison, the Congress and the DMK should perhaps bring out a new proposal in their next manifesto forbidding the arrest of women from their parties for any crime they commit.
