Apropos the 'Written down value' (July 2), a glaring paradox in management literature is one does not find equal footing for would-be employees. If you go for an interview, the management throws a bouncer: Why did you leave your previous job? Can the future employee, who is being interviewed, ask a counter question: Why did the former employee, for whose post he is being interviewed, leave the company? If he asks this question, will he be considered for the job? The answer to this question helps the future employee evaluate the company. Top positions of companies always attract media attention. A person who is about to join a company as the CEO knows why his predecessor quit. Even if he asks this pertinent question, he will get the answer, while people at the lower rung are hesitant to ask such questions. Management schools should have a chapter on this topic - If a future employee can ask a company about why the ex-employee leave the job, as the candidate is asked why did he leave his last job.
