Letters: Get the priorities right

The Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre should concentrate on getting both Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya back to India so that they may face legal proceedings here for alleged financial malfeasance, rather than waste its energy and resources on getting back the Koh-i-Noor diamond from the UK, which, given the complexity of facts and the legal position, seems impossible. Let the bid to get back the Koh-i-Noor not be turned into another nationalistic issue by the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Sangh Parivar to divert the country's attention from pressing needs, such as addressing the suffering of drought-hit people.

Already, some ministers in Maharashtra and Karnataka as well as a central minister have exhibited lack of sensitivity, wasting thousands of litres of water - for dust-free landing of their helicopters and sprinkling it on the roads to ensure a dust-free ride for the Karnataka chief minister. We need to get our priorities right.
