The recent directive from the Prime Minister’s Office to all ministries to locate vacant land for the affordable housing scheme is laudable.
It is an excellent step to create a land bank. Several land parcels are available with the defence ministry under the aegis of Directorate General Defence Estates.
The affordable housing scheme appears to be gaining momentum now. It will enable the Bharatiya Janata Party to come back to power in 2019 as it focuses on the poor and low income groups.
While the scheme is similar to the 20-point programme of former PM Indira Gandhi, I hope the errors of the latter won’t be repeated now.
