Letters: Not a threat to security

Apropos the editorial, "DGCA's latest misstep", suspending the crew of a Jet Airways flight for permitting playback singer Sonu Nigam to sing some of his songs just to make passengers on-board happy seems bizarre. By no stretch of imagination could the move have compromised the aircraft's security, unless of course, making passengers happy is considered a threat. By the same logic, announcements about approaching turbulence or other flight data should be subject to restriction.

In 2012, the crew of a Finnair flight surprised its passengers travelling to Delhi by dancing to a Bollywood number to celebrate India's Republic Day. A video recording of their dance went viral on the internet, registering more than 5.5 million hits. No one has considered that gesture as compromising the security of the aircraft or crew.
