They are being asked to pay more for necessities such as water even while drinking contaminated water
With reference to the report, "Bhopal gas tragedy - 31 years on: A third generation might be at risk" (December 2), had the industrial disaster taken place in a developed country, the company in question would have gone bankrupt. In India nothing of that sort happened while for the victims the suffering passed on from one generation to the next.
They are being asked to pay more for necessities such as water even while drinking contaminated water. A lot of the toxic waste generated during the disaster is still lying inside the factory. Such is the apathy.
There is so much talk about building smart cities. How about being smart in tackling natural and industrial disasters? One only needs to look at the floods in Chennai to understand how ill-prepared we are in dealing with disasters.
