The Telangana issue has been mismanaged. A referendum could have been held in the Telangana region to decide the issue by a simple majority of votes. Enough time could have been given to the parties concerned to discuss the pros and cons of the proposal with the public. Now that the demand for the bifurcation of other states is coming up, the Centre will be wise to follow the principle of referendum.
