If you are lonely in New Delhi and an MP, how do you spend your time? Ask Prasanta Kumar Majumdar — a first-time Lok Sabha MP from Balurghat. When Parliament is in session, Mazumdar reaches by 8.30am and roams around the temple of democracy, meeting people and reading books. He is also the last MP to leave the building, around 8pm. “I spend most of the time in the library or in the House. The library helps me prepare for debates,” Mazumdar says. His party, Revolutionary Socialist Party, has just two MPs in the Lok Sabha and Mazumdar, being the senior member, takes part in almost all debates in the House.
