India’s babus have had a run of good luck this year. A combination of factors has ensured that festivals and national holidays have fallen on days that allow them to have an extended weekend. Id fell on a Monday ( September 21), allowing a three-day weekend. The following Monday was Dussehra, so another three-day break followed. Then Gandhi Jayanti fell on a Friday! Their good luck, however, appears to have run out because Diwali is on a Saturday. Though the following Monday is Bhaiyaduj, that is only a ‘restricted’ holiday.
