Arjun Ram Meghwal, the new minister of state for finance and corporate affairs, reached North Block in a car on Wednesday. Meghwal, the Bharatiya Janata Party chief whip until recently, was famous for riding a bicycle to Parliament when it was in session.
A former bureaucrat, Meghwal bicycled to the Rashtrapati Bhavan even to take his oath on Tuesday. Meghwal was one of the three members of Parliament (MP) who would bicycle to Parliament. All three MPs have now been inducted into the council of ministers. The others are P P Chaudhary and Mansukh Mandaviya.
In what is a good lesson in building brand recall, their bicycles would be parked next to each other in the midst of SUVs of other MPs in the Parliament House parking lot. All three bicycles had big saffron boards with the names and introduction of their owners displayed prominently.
