On Wednesday, several Members of Parliament, including Rahul Gandhi, voted to elect members to some of the House committees. A Congress member told one from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) how Gandhi queued up to vote for a candidate from the Left, and that this signified his commitment to Opposition unity. Mohammed Salim, the CPI (M)'s leader in the Lok Sabha, who was passing by and heard the exchange, butted in, tongue in cheek, that his party supported Gandhi's climb to the top job in the Congress. Gandhi is known to be close to CPI (M) chief Sitaram Yechury.
