Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has an array of spokespersons. Many of them are seldom seen in the party headquarters at 11, Ashoka Road, in New Delhi, but are permanent fixtures in television studios during prime time debates. But now a polite message has gone out from the top party leadership to these spokespersons that they should shoulder the burden of the BJP media cell in keeping track and reviewing newspaper and news television reports, and even bring the more interesting reports to the attention of the party leadership. Spokespersons have been asked to spend a minimum of two hours in the party headquarters. They have also been asked to read at least half a dozen newspapers and contribute to the daily review that the party does of these reports. These spokespersons will continue to present the party’s point of view in television debates.
