A member of the Rajasthan State Commission for Women resigned on Thursday, after a controversy erupted over a selfie she had taken with an alleged rape survivor.

Photos of Somya Gurjar holding her iPad to take a selfie with the alleged rape survivor and the state commission chairperson, Suman Sharma, went viral on Wednesday.

While Sharma is said to have disapproved of the act and claimed to have sought a written explanation, Gurjar cried foul in a Facebook post, saying she was only trying to cheer up the woman, who had accused her husband and his two brothers of raping her.
