In Karnataka, a project to offer affordable food to the urban poor is undergoing a name change even before it had started. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, a socialist-turned-Congressman, had christened the plan Namma Canteen (Our Canteen) to give the project an aura of inclusiveness. For reasons best known to him, he has decided to rebrand it as Indira Canteen. The Bharatiya Janata Party, which is looking at Karnataka as its gateway to the south, has been quick to point out the reason: “the influence of the dynasty”.
