Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar recently visited his former Parliamentary constituency, Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu. Now a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, Aiyar was invited to inaugurate a culvert in the village, which was a long-standing demand of the people. Pointing to the laxity of the system, Aiyar said the demand for a culvert was a good 25-year old, since the time of the late President R Venkataraman. In other words, it took a quarter of a century to get a culvert constructed. Wonder how long would it take for essential services to reach the village!
