Most people accept the fact that technical terms can be baffling but it becomes vital to understand them in a legal context. Thus, in a hearing of the case involving Reliance Industries' gas discoveries in the Krishna-Godavari basin, the term DOC came up. What is DOC, one of the judges asked. Someone from the government's legal team attempted an answer, saying it probably stood for department of... but he was swiftly corrected by others. DOC refers to "declaration of commerciality" of an oil and gas discovery. At this point, the judge sensibly asked for a glossary of terminology to be submitted in the court for future reference.
