Arrested MP's Facebook post puts Trinamool in spot

Roy asked cops to quiz CM, other leaders to unravel the truth behind the scam

Hours after his arrest, journalist-turned-Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh, in a Facebook post, named 12 persons, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who, he said, could help the police in the investigation of multi-crore chit fund scam. Most of the people mentioned in the post belonged to TMC.

Roy asked the police to question the chief minister, TMC general secretary Mukul Roy and other leaders to unravel the truth behind the scam. Apart from Mamata and Mukul Roy, other names which figure on the list are: Tutu Bose (former TMC MP) and his two sons – Srinjoy Bose(TMC MP), Soumik Bose; Rajat Majumdar (an official earlier associated with Saradha), Shubhendhu Adhikary (TMC MP), Madan Mitra (TMC leader and state transport minister), Krishna Chakravarty (TMC leader), Samir Chakrabarty (TMC leader), KD Singh (TMC MP) and Asif Khan (a close aide of TMC leader Mukul Roy).

"They are all respected and noted personalities. In Saradha investigation, police can seek help of all of them. But police are not doing that. I am not making any allegations, but police should seek the help of all of them in this matter," the post said, which also demanded a CBI probe into the scam.

However, it is not clear who uploaded the post as Kunal Ghosh was in the police custody when it was done. Incidentally, day before yesterday, Ghosh had vowed to disclose the names of persons involved in the Saradha scam.

Business Stanadard could not get individual responses from all the persons named, but, speaking on behalf of the party, TMC leader Mukul Roy said, "We still maintain our position that law will take its own course. We have no further comment to offer."

Kunal Ghosh’s arrest and the Facebook post has given a shot in the arm of the Left Front and Congress. While the Congress workers hit the street demanding action against all those named, the Left too joined the chorus. "Kunal Ghosh might be involved. But, why there is no action against others named by him," senior CPI (M) leader Md Salim said.

Earlier, the police raided Ghosh’s residence and confiscated a computer. Later, a local court sent him for five-day police custody after the government lawyers sought for the same.
