Rakesh Singh, the BJP MP from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, was on Monday appointed as party's chief whip in Lok Sabha.

Singh replaces Arjun Ram Meghawal, who was inducted into the Modi government in the July 5 expansion, and given the Finance and Corporate Affairs portfolios.

"Our party MP from Jabalpur and a seasoned leader from Madhya Pradesh Rakesh Singh has been appointed as party's chief whip in Lok Sabha," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar told reporters here.

Singh is a three-time MP from Jabalpur.
