On September 27, President Ram Nath Kovind signed into law the three farm Bills cleared by Parliament, even as several farmer organisations across the country launched protests against these Acts, calling them are 'anti-farmer'. These protests have been the strongest in Punjab and Haryana. The Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020, have now been notified.

The Gaon Connection Survey — The Indian Farmer's Perception of the New Agri Laws — tried to find out how many farmers were aware of the three recent Acts.  The survey found that overall 67 per cent farmer respondents were aware of the three agricultural laws. Asked if they supported the three recent agri laws, 35 per cent respondent farmers were in support of the new Acts, whereas more than half — 52 per cent — were against these laws.

However, the respondent data analysed as part of this survey shows that of the 52 per cent farmers opposing the laws, 36.4 per cent are not aware of the details of these laws. Similarly, of the 35 per cent farmers supporting the three recent agri laws, 17.6 per cent are not aware of the details of these laws. Hence, there is a section of farmers who are supporting or opposing the farm laws without having information about them.
