Geelani released from house detention

The Hurriyat leader was placed under house arrest on Nov 16 as he planned to hold rallies at Pattan in Baramulla district and Banihal in Ramban

Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani was released today from house detention as the police personnel deployed outside his residence were removed from there.

A spokesman of the hardline Hurriyat Conference said the police personnel, deployed outside Geelani's Hyderpora residence last week, left in the morning.

He said Geelani, the chairman of the hardline Hurriyat, visited the residence of an acquaintance to take part in funeral prayers of his relative at Chanapora on the outskirts of the city.

Geelani was placed under house arrest on November 16 as he planned to hold public rallies at Pattan in Baramulla district and Banihal in Ramban during this week.

The separatist leader was placed under house arrest soon after his return from Delhi in March this year and was released on October 29.
