Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said today that the BJP government in Chhattisgarh had failed to discharge the basic duties it was assigned.

“It is the moral and basic duty of the state government to provide security to its citizens and the BJP government in Chhattisgarh failed to do it,” Singh said while addressing Congress workers’ convention here Saturday afternoon. The Jhiramghati (Darba Ghats) Naxal ambush on Congress convey that killed party’s key leaders and security personnel stand testimony to it, he added.

Trudging down the road marked by the Congress party to attack BJP government in the backdrop of Darba Ghat incident, Prime Minister said the incident showed how law and order situation in Chhattisgarh had deteriorated. “The BJP government had been speaking about the sensitivity but did not reveal how security lapse happened and why security cover was not provided to the Congress leaders only because of political differences,” he added.

Singh said the top priority of the Congress party would be to improve the law and order situation in the state to facilitate implementation of the infrastructure and development projects.

The Prime Minister charged that the BJP leaders were misguiding people by disclosing fake figures of growth and development in the states ruled to their party. “If possible, BJP will change the history and geography of the country,” he said, adding making tall claims from big stages would not help the party to come to power.

Referring to the Raman Singh government claims over Public Distribution System (PDS) feat, Manmohan Singh said the state government never revealed that 90 per cent subsidy was provided by the Centre. “The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had provided all assistance to Chhattisgarh to progress and prosper,” he added.

The Sipat Power Station that he dedicated to the Nation in September this year stand as example to the UPA government’s support to Chhattisgarh, he added.

The Prime Minister called upon the Congress workers to expose the BJP and convince the voters that the development of Chhattisgarh was possible only if Congress was in power.
