The CPI-M Wednesday asked the government to unveil an anti-racist law to curb attacks similar to those on people from the northeast in Delhi.

"The central government should consider drafting an anti-racist law to curb such discrimination and attacks" besides taking other necessary steps to ensure the northeastern people's safety in Delhi, it said.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist voiced "deep concern at the continuing attacks on people from the northeast in Delhi.

"After the death of Arunachal student Nido Taniam, several other incidents have occurred including the rape of a minor girl from Manipur and physical attacks on other young men.

"There is no doubt that there is a racist bias in such attacks.

"It is imperative that citizens from any part of the country are able to live in peace and harmony and pursue their work or studies in the capital of India without being subject to racist attacks."
