Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh Saturday resigned from the Lok Sabha and said he was returning to the BJP.

Addressing the media at his Mall Avenue residence, Kalyan Singh said the time has come when India takes a decision to vote for good governance and vote out the corrupt and non-performing politicians.

The 82-year-old leader, who represents Etah in the Lok Sabha as an Independent, left the Bharatiya Janata Party in December 1999 only to return in January 2004 before the Lok Sabha elections. He again left the party on the eve of the Lok Sabha polls.

Claiming that BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was a "symbol" of good governance and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi stood no chance in front of the Gujarat chief minister.

Kalyan Singh said people were now looking towards the BJP for a stable government at the centre.

Citing the example of the Lok Janshakti Party, he said that even people opposed to the BJP in the last one decade were now turning towards it.

Terming the Third Front as a "failed front", the two-time chief minister said the formation was a "group of frustrated leaders" who neither had any "niti" (policy) or "niyat" (good thinking).

Kalyan Singh is also scheduled to take part in the BJP's "Vijay Shankhnad" rally to be addressed by Modi in Lucknow Sunday.
