Kejriwal's 48-day term worst example of governance: Harsh Vardhan

A day after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal's resignation as Delhi Chief Minister, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Harsh Vardhan on Saturday termed his 48-day tenure as the "worst example of governance."

"I would like to request the countrymen to analyze the activities of Kejriwal's government in last 48 days. They will realize that he has only spread anarchy and has set up the worst example of governance in this country," he said.

Reacting to the AAP's allegation of an existing BJP-Congress corruption nexus, Harsh Vardhan added: "People are familiar with the lies propagated by Mr. Kejriwal. No one takes them seriously now."

He also said that he would await a decision by Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on government formation in Delhi while adding that his party is prepared to face fresh elections as well.

"It is up to the Lieutenant Governor to decide. We are prepared for everything," Harsh Vardhan said.

The Delhi BJP is likely to hold a meeting later in the day to decide the future course of action.

Earlier on Friday, Kejriwal resigned as Delhi Chief Minister after the Assembly session was adjourned sine die following protests by the opposition over the Jan Lokpal Bill.

"Today Jan Lokpal Bill was not allowed to be introduced, BJP and Congress united to oppose it. Their true faces have been brought in front of all of us," he said to the AAP supporters who had gathered outside the party office here today.

"I did not come here for power. And today our Government has tendered its resignation. And I will consider myself fortunate if I have to sacrifice my life for the country. We had a Cabinet meeting right now, and it was decided that our government will resign," he added.

Kejriwal also said that the Delhi Assembly should be immediately dissolved, and demanded for re-elections in the state.

He further claimed the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for blocking the Bill in the House, in retaliation to the FIR filed by the Delhi Government against Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani over gas prices.
