Muzaffarnagar riots: SIT files charge sheet against one more accused

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Muzaffarnagar riots today filed a charge sheet in a court against one more accused in a riot-related murder case here.

SIT inspector Rasham Singh filed the chargesheet against Manoj Kumar, one of the accused in the Kutba killing during the communal riots September last.

According to SIT, eight persons including a woman identified as Khatoon, Wahid, Shamshgad, Irshad, Trabuddin, Kayyum, Fayyaz and Momin were killed and several injured allegedly by rioters, who had also burnt houses at the Kutba village in the district on September 8.

Imran, a son of one of the victims, had lodged a complaint against 110 people under sections 302, 307, 147, 436 of the IPC.

Two accused Kunwerpal and Jogender were earlier arrested and chargesheeted, SIT said, adding it has identified 41 accused involved in the case. Later one more accused Manoj was arrested.

The remaining 38 accused are still absconding and court has initiated attachment proceedings against them.

Around 60 people died and thousands were displaced from their homes in last year's communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and neighbouring villages of Western Uttar Pradesh.
